Mussels Fra Diavolo

Take a quick trip to the Italian Coastline, with this delicious recipe for Mussels Fra Diavolo. "Fra Diavolo" in Italian translates to "devil brother", so be warned there is a beautiful little kick of spice brought to the dish from the addition of crushed red pepper. Pair these fresh, wine doused mussels, with a crusty bread for dipping and soaking up sauce, you'll feel like you've died and gone to heaven!

  • 1 Jar Pasta Jay’s Marinara Sauce
  • Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup minced shallot
  • 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 3 lbs mussels, scrubbed and debearded
  • fresh chopped parsley, for serving
  • Bread, for serving
  • Lemon, for serving

How To Make

STEP 1: In a large saucepan, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the shallot, garlic and crushed red pepper and cook stirring until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the wine and boil until reduced by half, about 3 minutes. Stir in Pasta Jay's Marinara Sauce and bring to a simmer.

STEP 2: Add the mussels, cover and cook until opened, 7-9 minutes; be sure discard any mussels that do not open. Season lightly with salt, then transfer the mussels and sauce to a platter.

STEP 3: Sprinkle with chopped parsley and lemon wedges on the side. Serve immediately with bread.
