Italian Sausage Stuffing

Give everyone's favorite side dish an Italian upgrade. For this stuffing we swap out your boring base, for an Italian loaf. Combine that with some Italian sausage, heavy cream and parmesan cheese, and you've got a heavenly stuffing that will make you guests want to go back for seconds, maybe even thirds!

  • 1 loaf Italian bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 8 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 pounds sweet or hot Italian sausage
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 3 medium onions, chopped
  • 4 large celery ribs, chopped
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • ¾ cup heavy cream, divided
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup flat-leaf parsley, coarsely chopped

How to Make

STEP 1: Preheat oven to 350°F.

STEP 2: Bake bread cubes on baking pan until just dried out, about 10-12 minutes. Remove and increase oven temp to 425°F.

STEP 3: Heat a drizzle of oil about (1tbsp) in a large skillet. Cook sausage, breaking into pieces until golden brown. Transfer with a slotted spoon to a large bowl.

STEP 4: Wipe skillet clean. Heat butter over medium heat add onions, celery, garlic. Season with salt and pepper, stir occasionally, until golden, 12 to 15 minutes.

STEP 5: Combine vegetables and bread with sausage.

STEP 6: Whisk together eggs, ½ cup cream, chicken broth, parmesan, and parsley. Stir into stuffing and allow to cool completely.

STEP 7: Spoon stuffing into a large backing dish, drizzle with remaining ¼ cup cream. Cover tightly with foil. Optional: Reserve 5 cups of stuffing to stuff turkey.

STEP 8: Bake stuffing covered, for 20 minutes. Remove foil and back until top slightly browned and crispy, 10-15 minutes.

STEP 9: Allow to cool 2-5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
